While Travelling
Do we eat Chinese food throughout the trip?
All breakfasts are western style buffet with fruits, cold and hot cereals, Chinese dim sum etc. Lunch and dinner are Chinese food with one glass of soft drink.

How many famous dishes are on the Xian menu?
It is no doubt that there are many famous dishes in Xi'an. By famous I mean dishes prepared by noted chefs, recorded in history, possessing a reputation and those which have been popular for a long period of time. For example, Fan's Cured Meat in Pancakes, Shredded Pancakes in Mutton or Beef Broth, the Tong's Cured Mutton, and so on.Homemade dishes are not included. And we always try our best to provide you the best food in the limited times in your trip.

What's the best buy in China?
China's markets are becoming more prosperous. Shoppers will find that they can get many of the same items in Chinese cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, and Xi'an as they do in Hong Kong, New York, Tokyo and Paris. However, some of the more Chinese-flavored items may not be as readily available in other parts of the world as in Chinese cities. This, I believe, is what you should consider for shopping.
Recommended shopping list:
  • Antiques, paintings and calligraphy. These can offer a glimpse of age-old Chinese civilization.
They are both artistic works for appreciation and wise investments.
  • Silk. China is home to silk where you can get genuine pure silk, which makes for perfect gifts. A
trip to a silk factory usually ends up as a shopping spree.
  • Handicrafts.

  • What cautions should foreigners take when buying Chinese antiques?
Chinese antiques consist of the following six categories: Porcelain; calligraphy and paintings; books; jewelry; curios; and furniture.
The first thing to consider is whether the antiques are allowed out of China . According to Chinese laws, only antiques dated after 1797 (during the reign of Emperor Jiaqing of the Qing dynasty) can be traded and taken out of China . Antiquities to be taken out of China must bear a wax seal certified and be stamped by the National Administration for the Preservation of Cultural Relics, or secure a license for exit. The Administration has officers stationed at various department stores and antique markets to help shoppers verify their purchases.
If your schedule permits, we advise you to buy antiques in Xi'an , Beijing , Nanjing , Hangzhou , or Luoyang.

Is there an airport tax in China?
If you are taking Chinese domestic flights, an airport construction fee of RMB 50 per person per stop is required. If you are flying out of China , including Hong Kong and Macao , a departure tax of RMB 90 per person per stop is required. These fees should be paid by cash. Children under 12 needn't pay.

What is the airport tax in Hong Kong?
    HK$50 (US$1=HK$7.73) per person.

Could you suggest how we should tip the guides and drivers?
Tipping will make your trip more pleasant and helpful. Guides and drivers now expect tips. The normal practice is US$2 per person per day for guides, and US$1 per person per day for drivers. You may tip them only when you are satisfied with their service.

Is it convenient to make phone calls in China? What kind of phone card is available to foreign travelers?
IDD service is available at all hotels and post offices. China country code is 86 and outgoing international code is 00.
It is very convenient to make phone calls in China now. Telephone booths can be seen everywhere, in hotels, restaurants, airports as well as on the streets. Various phone cards are sold in China , available in post offices inside hotels or at most newsstands on the street. Among them IC card is recommended for its convenience and IP card for low price.

What if I lost my passport when traveling in China?
We suggest you make copies of your passport, visa and airline tickets. If you do lose your passport unfortunately, you should report immediately to your embassy or consulate in China . Your tour guide is also supposed to help you solve the problem.

What should I do if I have problem with safty?
If you have any problems with safety or any legal matters you should report them to your local PSB (Public Security Bureau), because they are responsible for public safety and order.
