The Revolutionary Park

The Revolutionary Park was built in the 1927. it is on the Xiwu Road,Xian, which covers 150 Mu. In the spring of 1926, Zheng Zhenhua, the head of the banditi, tried to capture Xi'an in the support of Zhang Zuolin, a head of Fengxi(a area of Liaoning Province) warlord. He lead a so called "ten million people" army in order to expand area for Zhang Zuolin. Liu Zhenhua sieged the Xi'an for 8 months and fired 100 thousand Mu wheat fields outside the city. He even let the farmers to dig a 3-kilometer-long ditch which was called "Duanjue Ditch"(break off the connection) in order to urge the soliders and people in the city to give in. Guomin Army lead by the general Yang Hucheng and Li Huchen defended the city bravely. Then the general Feng Yuxiang lead the army to Shaanxi and broke Liu Zhenhua's conspiracy. At that time, it was called " Two Tigers defended Chang'an" because there were Hu(tiger) in the names of Yang Hucheng and Li Hucheng. During the siege, about 50 thousand people lost their lives which is one fourth people in the city.

On February, 1927, in order to memorize the victims in the siege, the general Feng Yuxiang lead the people to hold the memorial ceremony and built the revolutionary park. He also built the Martyr Hall and Revolutionary Kiosk so that the citizens can sacrifice them. They also Brought the Taihu Stone which was called the relic of the Tangqing Palace from to stand by the bank of the lake in the park.

After the liberation of Xi'an, the government invested money to reconstruct the park and planted about 10 thousand trees.
