This revolutionary site is situated in Wangjia Ping Village to the northwest of Yan'an across the Yanhe River.
Wangjia Ping Revolutionary Site consists of two courtyards. The southern one was the political headquarters and the northern one the commander's headquarters. The main buildings include the auditorium of the Military Commission, Chairman Mao's former sitting room, and the former residence of Zhu De, Zhou Enlai, Peng Dehuai and Ye Jianying. Among them the meeting room and the auditorium are the most eye-catching. In those days, most of the large-scale meetings and parties were held there.
Mao Zedong, Zhou Enlai, Ye jiangying, Peng Dehuai, and many other party leaders once lived at Wangjia Ping. During the ten years between January 1937 and March 1947, THE Central Military Commission was stationed here. Then after the Xian Incident took place on December 12, 1936, Wangjia Ping became the Commander-in-chief's Headquarters of the Chinese People's Liberation Army.
At this place, the Military Commission and the Headquarters of People's Liberation Army led Chinese people to the success of the eight-year Anti-Japanese War. It was also here that Chairman Mao wrote such famous articles as A Talk with American Journalist Anna Louise Strong, and worked out the fighting strategies and military principles for the War of Liberation. It was again at this place that in January 1946, Chairman Mao held a talk with his eldest son Mao Anying, who just returned from his study abroad and encouraged him to work in the countryside to gain some firsthand experience through physical labor.
During his stay at Wangjia Ping, Zhu De was in charge of the 359th Brigade of the Eighth Route Army. Through the soldiers' hard work, the desolated Nanni Wan was transformed into the "Land of Plenty in Northern Shaanxi".
In 1947, Peng Dehuai directed the war of defending Yan'an.
